Campus Energy Conservation Holiday Reminder -- Thanksgiving 2025 /announcements/fac-staff/19867-campus-energy-conservation-holiday-reminder-thanksgiving-2025 /announcements/fac-staff/19867-campus-energy-conservation-holiday-reminder-thanksgiving-2025 In support of the UAH Energy Management program, the Facilities and Operations (F&O) Department will be implementing some basic HVAC and lighting "unoccupied space" setbacks across campus to reduce utility costs and promote good stewardship/sustainability during the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday closure.

These energy conservation measures will not decrease the safety of those on campus nor degrade essential operations or preservation of sensitive assets. Facilities and Operations will monitor the building HVAC and lighting systems during limited operations and adjust any energy conservation measures as needed.

Requests for exceptions to workspace HVAC and lighting "unoccupied space" setbacks must be submitted with justification to the F&O Service Desk at facilities@uah.edu or (256)824-6490 by Friday, November 21, 2025.

UAH Mission Accessible: A Call to Action for Our University Community /announcements/fac-staff/19864-uah-mission-accessible-a-call-to-action-for-our-university-community /announcements/fac-staff/19864-uah-mission-accessible-a-call-to-action-for-our-university-community Dear UAH Community,

I am writing to inform you of a critical initiative that will require the engagement and commitment of every member of our university: UAH Mission Accessible.

As a public institution, UAH must comply with the new Title II digital accessibility requirements. Over the next six months, we must ensure that all digital materials — from course content to university communications — are accessible to all members of our community. This is not only a legal mandate with an April 2026 deadline; it is a reflection of our values as a supportive learning, living and working community of higher education.

What This Means for You

For over a year, teams from across the university have been working hard to determine the best response to this change. Over the next six months, you will be asked to complete training and utilize tools specific to your role at the university. Whether you are faculty, staff, students or administrator, you have an essential part to play in the success of this mission. The trainings are designed to provide you with the knowledge and resources you need to incorporate accessibility into your daily work.

A Call to Step Up as Chargers

Throughout our history, this university has demonstrated time and again our ability to rise to significant challenges. We have adapted, innovated and persevered when it mattered most. UAH Mission Accessible is our next opportunity to show what we can accomplish when we work together with shared purpose.

I am asking each of you to step up as Chargers and complete the trainings as they are released in Canvas and implement the practices covered. This is not something we can ignore — it is essential to our mission and our compliance. But I know this community, and I know what we are capable of achieving together.

Together, We Will Succeed

With your commitment and collaboration, I am confident that we will meet these requirements and provide an accessible learning and working environment for everyone at UAH. This work matters, and I am grateful for your partnership in getting it done.

Thank you for your dedication to UAH and to serving all members of our community.

Go Chargers!

As part of our ongoing efforts to continually modernize our systems, we will be implementing our new Remote Work Policy (interim), effective Friday, Jan. 2, 2026.

Key highlights include:

  • Eligibility Requirements for Staff
  • Work Arrangements and Schedule
  • Communication, Performance and Reporting

There will also be two forms — remote work business plan and remote work agreement — to be completed by the employee and/or supervisor. Ultimately, Vice Presidents/Deans, in conjunction with Human Resources, shall have the sole discretion to approve an employee’s remote work arrangement.

You can review  We have also created a list of FAQs that you can review below. Again, our interim Remote Work Policy will go into effect Friday, Jan. 2, 2026. We encourage all staff to read the policy carefully. Managers will be available to answer any questions and support the transition process. You should use this time to make all necessary adjustments and to complete any necessary forms.

Thank you for your continued dedication and adaptability as we evolve our workplace practices to better serve both our employees and our organization.

Frequently Asked Questions about the UAH Remote Work Policy (interim)

Q: Who is eligible to participate in the Remote Work Program?
A:  Only Staff members who are regular twelve-month full-time (40-hour) employees who have completed one year of service are eligible for the program. This Policy does NOT affect Faculty members.

Q: What is considered a “Primary Work/Duty Location?”
A: The Primary Work/Duty Location is where a staff member’s office is located. This policy refers to the “Primary Work/Duty Location” as staff members who work on the UAH campus.

Q: If my “Primary Work Location” is not on the UAH campus, does this policy impact me?
A: Generally, no. If your “Primary Work Location" is not on the UAH campus, this policy does not immediately impact you. Employment positions that are established as authorized off-campus positions (i.e., off-site regional admissions recruiters, research personnel working solely on-site and in person at Redstone Arsenal who do not work on-campus at UAH, etc.) are generally not subject to the requirements of this Policy.  However, employees who are assigned to an off-campus position that desire to work remotely (from an Alternative Work Location other than the one they are assigned) must still comply with this Policy.

Q: Who is the final decision maker if I choose to work remotely?
A: Vice Presidents/Deans, in conjunction with Human Resources, shall have the sole discretion (subject to the parameters in this policy) to approve a remote work arrangement for employees in their areas.  Remote full arrangements, as described in the policy, must be approved by the President.

Q: What is the difference between “Remote Hybrid” and “Remote Full?”
A: There are two types of remote work options. Remote Hybrid is a work arrangement that authorizes an employee to perform their regular job duties from both an on-campus and an approved off-campus location. Remote Full is a work arrangement for an employee to perform their regular job duties on a continuous basis (100% of the time) from an approved remote work location. Both types of remote work are described within the Policy.

Q: What is an Alternative Work Options Business Plan and will I have to complete it?
A:  Each business area must have an updated Alternative Work Options Business Plan in place. The Business Plan ensures continuity of business operations occur in each unit. The unit’s senior management will complete the Business Plan.

Q: I currently have a teleworking agreement in place. Will I need to complete the Remote Work Agreement?
A: Yes, you will need to complete the new Remote Work Agreement. All positions and requests for remote work will be reassessed for compliance with the updated policy.

Q: Will I have to report my performance separately or will the supervisor review my performance outside of my annual review?
A: All staff members with a remote work agreement in place will be reviewed quarterly by their supervisor, in addition to their annual performance review.  Supervisors will complete the quarterly report.

Q: Where do I find the Remote Work Policy (interim) and the additional forms?
A: The Policy can be found on the  The additional forms can be found on the .
