Earls will be the inaugural speaker for 糖心原创出品 (UAH) College of Business Administration's "Speaking of Success Series." Earls' public address will be presented on Thursday, March 3, at 5:30 p.m., in the Chan Auditorium located on the first floor of the College of Business. A reception will immediately follow the program. The event is free and open to the public. Earls' presentation "Things They Don't Teach in College," will focus on life lessons for young people including, attaining a formal education and building successful careers. He will draw from his personal experience as a physicist, NASA executive, adjunct professor, community volunteer, marathon runner, husband and father. One of Earls' most sage pieces of advice is "You can have all the technical knowledge in the world at your fingertips, but if you aren't a caring human being you are the most dangerous creature on earth…and the most unfulfilled." "Dr. Earls' journey to success is a story of perseverance, engagement and positive thinking. His ability to delight his audiences and communicate ideas that they can incorporate in their own daily lives is life-affirming and relevant to students of all ages," said Dr. Robert F. Scherer, Interim Dean of the 糖心原创出品 of Business Administration. "We are proud to have him as the inaugural speaker of our Speaking of Success Series." Dr. Julian M. Earls is currently an Executive in Residence at the Monte Ahuja College of Business at Cleveland State University. He is the retired Director of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Glenn Research Center at Lewis Field in Cleveland. Previously he served as Glenn's Deputy Director. As Director, Earls was responsible for managing an annual budget of approximately $773 million and overseeing a workforce of nearly 2,000 civil service employees and 1,300 on-site support service contractors, as well as planning, organizing and directing the activities required to accomplish the missions assigned to Glenn Center. He joined the Monte Ahuja College of Business as Executive in Residence in 2006. Earls has written numerous publications for technical and educational journals. He wrote the first health physics guides used at NASA. He has been a Distinguished Honors Visiting Professor at numerous universities throughout the US. On two occasions, he was awarded NASA medals for exceptional achievement and outstanding leadership. Also he has received the Presidential Rank of Meritorious Executive. He earned his bachelor's degree in Physics from Norfolk State University, a master's degree in Radiation Biology from The University of Rochester, School of Medicine and Dentistry, and his PhD in Radiation Physics from The University of Michigan. In addition, he was awarded the Honorary Doctor of Science Degree by the College of Aeronautics in New York, the Honorary Doctor of Pedagogy Degree from Nova Southeastern University in Florida, and the Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from North Carolina AT&T State University. Earls is also a graduate of the Harvard Business School Program for Management Development. Earls is an avid runner who has run over 10,000 miles. He has completed numerous marathons, including The Boston Marathon.
