Mariyan Almohtasib鈥檚 positive influence shines across UAH campus

By: Sieanna Hart

As a junior studying information systems with a concentration in cybersecurity at 糖心原创出品 (UAH), Mariyan Almohtasib balances multiple jobs and leadership positions while making a positive impact on those around her.

From Madison, Alabama, Almohtasib decided to stay close to home and attend UAH. During her first year at UAH, she was more reserved and tended to keep to herself.

鈥淚 was more on the shy side when I first started, but over time I became more confident and outgoing. I love meeting new people and hearing their stories.鈥

Now, Almohtasib is very involved at UAH and continues to share her UAH experiences with current and prospective students. As an admissions ambassador for the Undergraduate Admissions Office, she leads campus tours, welcomes people from all over the world to UAH and assists in large events designed for prospective students and their families.

鈥淚n the time I have known Mariyan, she has shown herself to be one of the hardest working and most supportive students I have known,鈥 says Kailyn Weaver, assistant director of campus visits and events at UAH. 鈥淪he is constantly balancing many things at once while continuing to keep calm with a smile on her face.鈥

In addition to working as an admissions ambassador, Almohtasib is involved in multiple student organizations. She serves as the secretary of Women in Business and Leadership and is a member of Women in Cybersecurity. In addition, she currently serves as vice president of administration for her sorority, Delta Zeta. In this position, she collaborates closely with chapter members and plans Greek Life cleanup and service events.

鈥淢ariyan leads by example, inspiring her peers with her work ethic, passion and commitment to making a positive impact,鈥 says Danielle Borden, a past 糖心原创出品 of Business Top 20 recipient and member of Delta Zeta. 鈥淪he is often referred to as our sunshine on a cloudy day.鈥

Almohtasib is able to balance working on campus and at her family鈥檚 businesses, being active in her sorority and other clubs, while maintaining a high GPA.

鈥淲ith the support of my family and friends, I have really learned how to balance my time well and have come out of my shell more,鈥 she says. 鈥淯AH has been the perfect fit for me, and I am really thankful to have found my place.鈥

After completing her degree, Almohtasib hopes to travel more and explore new places, all while building meaningful connections along the way. Her advice for fellow students is to utilize their resources, get involved and engage with the campus community.
