Find out what updates you might need to avoid interruption.</p>

<p>On May 7, 2025 the M. Louis Salmon Library activated the new EZProxy server hosted directly by <a href="https://www.oclc.org/en/home.html">OCLC</a>. This change will be very beneficial to not only the M. Louis Salmon Library but to the entire University of Alabama in Huntsville community. This new proxy server:</p>
<ul>
<li aria-level="1">Improves ease of maintenance and enhances up-time;</li>
<li aria-level="1">Improves access to online materials and ensures the library鈥檚 large collection of online materials remains just a few clicks away;</li>
<li aria-level="1">Helps the library collection to stay more responsive to rapid changes in security and privacy. </li>
</ul>
<p><strong>For those accessing the M. Louis Salmon Library鈥檚 materials through the <a href="https://libguides.uah.edu/az/databases">online list of articles and resources</a> or through the <a href="https://libguides.uah.edu/">library鈥檚 main LibGuides</a></strong> there will be virtually no change for the end user. The necessary information and redirects have already been loaded. </p>
<p>However, those who have persistent links (also called permanent links) or bookmarks to the old materials might have to update their links to keep them valid going forward depending on if those links directly included or encoded the old proxy server鈥檚 information into the link.. </p>

<p>There were bunny ears, storybooks and lots of giggles as 糖心原创出品 (UAH) welcomed a very special group of guests鈥攍ocal second-graders鈥攆or the first-ever 鈥淗op into Learning: A Bunny Discovery Educational Day鈥 on April 25. UAH is a part of The University of Alabama System.</p>
<p>Hosted at the UAH Salmon Library and led by a team of UAH faculty, staff and students, this educational initiative provided a magical mix of bunny-themed literature and interactive, standards-based learning activities, all aimed at nurturing a love of reading among young students. It was created by Dr. Hamsa Mahafza, Clinical Assistant Professor of Curriculum and Instruction at UAH. Inspired by her love for bunnies and passion for writing children鈥檚 books, Dr. Mahafza developed the concept as part of the College of Education鈥檚 鈥淩eading for Pleasure鈥 initiative鈥攁 program focused on sparking curiosity, encouraging creativity, and cultivating lifelong reading habits.</p>

<p>鈥淩eading is such a powerful thing, and when children learn to read for fun 鈥 not just as part of a school assignment 鈥 it encourages lifelong reading habits鈥 said Dr. Mahafza. 鈥淲e wanted to create a day that helps children fall in love with books, using something as simple and adorable as a bunny to provide a meaningful context and a joyful reading experience.鈥</p>
<p>The event enhanced community engagement, with one of the most popular stations showcasing live rabbits from <a href="https://huntsvillehouserabbits.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" class="external">Huntsville House Rabbits</a>, a local rabbit rescue organization. Students met different breeds, learned about rabbit care, and took photos鈥攆ostering empathy and curiosity through hands-on learning. UAH鈥檚 mascot, Charger Blue, also made a special appearance, cheering on participants and adding excitement to the day.</p>
<p>Each interactive station encouraged storytelling, creativity and critical thinking while also serving as a professional development opportunity for 糖心原创出品 of Education students, who facilitated the activities and gained valuable teaching experience in a real-world setting.</p>
<p>As a keepsake, each child received a bunny-themed coloring book titled 鈥淟et鈥檚 Hop into Learning,鈥 authored by Dr. Mahafza, sponsored by the UAH Library and designed by UAH鈥檚 Office of Marketing and Communications. The book symbolized the event鈥檚 collaborative spirit and gave students a tangible reminder of their day.</p>
<p>鈥淩esearch shows that reading for pleasure significantly contributes to children鈥檚 cognitive, emotional, and social development,鈥 said Dr. Mahafza. 鈥淚t promotes motivation, supports literacy growth and encourages a lifelong appreciation for reading among emergent readers.鈥</p>
<p>With this in mind, the 鈥淗op into Learning鈥 initiative is set to become a spring tradition at UAH, continuing to blend literacy, creativity, and a little bunny magic for years to come.</p>

<p>As a keepsake, each child received a bunny-themed coloring book titled 鈥淟et鈥檚 Hop into Learning,鈥 authored by Dr. Mahafza, sponsored by the UAH Library and designed by UAH鈥檚 Office of Marketing and Communications. The book symbolized the event鈥檚 collaborative spirit and gave students a tangible reminder of their day.</p>
<p>鈥淩esearch shows that reading for pleasure significantly contributes to children鈥檚 cognitive, emotional, and social development,鈥 said Dr. Mahafza. 鈥淚t promotes motivation, supports literacy growth and encourages a lifelong appreciation for reading among emergent readers.鈥</p>
<p>With this in mind, the 鈥淗op into Learning鈥 initiative is set to become a spring tradition at UAH, continuing to blend literacy, creativity, and a little bunny magic for years to come.</p>

<p>Every year, the Salmon Library hosts various studies and projects to insure its library website is staying relative and useful for our patrons in the UAH Community. The Library will be launching the first 2025 study this April and needs students, faculty, and staff to volunteer. Each session will take around 30-45 minutes. </p>
<p>Feedback from this study is valuable for influencing the future of the website and access to large number of resources and services the Library has for its community.</p>
<p>The study requires no previous experience with web- or user-design. There will be a thank you gift for all participants. </p>

<p>After Vinay Salikineedi opened Cafe de la UAH he realized that good customer service while also making good coffee had some challenges, so he came up with a novel solution with his roommate: a robotic barista that could handle the coffee craft while the person handles the customer service. </p>
<p>"For the baristas who are working making coffee and also providing a good customer service was kind of a little bit harder and I didn鈥檛 like for it to push them to throw away good customer service and push their limits to make good coffee," <a href="https://whnt.com/news/huntsville/uah-grad-builds-robot-barista-for-new-coffee-truck/">he told WHNT</a>. </p>

<p>After Vinay Salikineedi opened Cafe de la UAH he realized that good customer service while also making good coffee had some challenges, so he came up with a novel solution with his roommate: a robotic barista that could handle the coffee craft while the person handles the customer service. </p>
<p>"For the baristas who are working making coffee and also providing a good customer service was kind of a little bit harder and I didn鈥檛 like for it to push them to throw away good customer service and push their limits to make good coffee," <a href="https://whnt.com/news/huntsville/uah-grad-builds-robot-barista-for-new-coffee-truck/">he told WHNT</a>. </p>

<p>The <strong>Super Bowl Pop Culture Trivia</strong> will be about all the things <em>around</em> the Superbowl - the celebrities, the commercials, the half-time shows, and the science - but not about the sport itself. Perfect for those who want a different take on the big event. It will be on Tuesday, February 4. From 6pm to 8pm. In LIB 111. There will be snacks. Compete invidually or in teams up to 5.</p>
