Submit Your Application

Admission Requirements

After creating your Charger Status account, you will be directed to the application for admission. Complete the application, and pay the nonrefundable $60 application fee. 

A strong candidate for admission to the UAH Graduate School typically meets the following standards:

  • A bachelor鈥檚 degree, or equivalent, from an approved institution
  • A minimum grade point average of a 3.0 on the undergraduate record

Which programs require test scores for admission? 

View our Test Score Requirements page to see if your program requires a GRE, MAT or GMAT score for admissions consideration. 

Please note, department standards may be higher, so these minimum requirements do not guarantee admission to the UAH Graduate School. Program committees will not consider your application until all documents are received. For more information regarding specific admissions requirements to your program of interest, contact your program coordinator

Number of Applications

Students may submit an application for admission to one graduate program at a time. To apply to a second program within the same term, please submit a new application for admission. 

Application Deadlines 

International students seeking a F-1 Visa MUST be admitted in order to request an I-20 immigration form, and I-20 forms MUST be requested before the following dates for each entry term:

  • Fall Semester:  August 1
  • Spring Semester:  December 1
  • Summer Semester:  May 1

Some programs may have different application deadlines and deadlines for Graduate Teaching Assistantship (GTA) or Graduate Research Assistantship (GRA) consideration. Review our graduate program directory to view deadlines and terms of entry for your academic program. 


Submit Supporting Documents

Transcripts

You are required to submit transcripts from previously attended colleges from which a bachelor's degree or higher was obtained and any college attended after obtaining your bachelor's degree, including both undergraduate and graduate coursework.

Unofficial transcripts may be used for admissions consideration and should be uploaded directly to your Charger Status account. Please note, official transcripts must be received before you can complete class registration. 

Transcript Evaluation

If you completed coursework at a college or university in a foreign country, you may be requested to provide a course-by-course evaluation of your transcripts if your transcript is not in English or does not include a cumulative GPA of a 4.0 scale. 

Graduate students who intend to include transfer credits from a college or university in a foreign country on their UAH program of study will be required to provide a course-by-course evaluation of their transcripts. Students must request this evaluation by the completion of 18 credit hours of graduate coursework.

The agency you choose must send the official evaluation directly to the UAH Office of Graduate Admissions. Students will also receive an unofficial copy of the evaluation from the agency. UAH only recognizes the following evaluation agencies:


Test Scores

If your program requires a test score for admissions consideration, the testing agency should send your official test scores directly to UAH Graduate Admissions. View our Test Score Requirements page to see if your academic program requires a test score for admissions consideration.

English Language Proficiency Scores Graduate Admission

All applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate the English language proficiency necessary to succeed in degree programs at UAH as indicated by completing at least one of the following standardized English proficiency exams with the respective minimum score listed below: 

  • TOEFL iBT: 79 (no sub-score below 19)
  • IELTS: 6.0 (no sub-score below 6.0)
  • PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English Academic): 54
  • Duolingo: 110 (no sub-score below 105)
  • TOEIC: 670 (listening/reading score only)
  • Successful completion of the highest level of a CEA-accredited English Language Program ()

Please note the following:

  • We only accept English language proficiency test scores that were taken within two years of when the UAH application was submitted. 
  • UAH does not accept My Best Scores from TOEFL. You will need to submit individual test date score reports with your application.
  • UAH reserves the right to verify and double-check the applicant鈥檚 English proficiency when deemed necessary. 
  • Your academic program may require a higher minimum language score for admission.
  • Language proficiency is only one factor in admission decisions. To confirm the full admission requirements for specific degree programs, please refer to the application for your particular degree. 

You do not need to submit a language test score if:

  • You graduated from an accredited high school or university in the United States. 
  • You graduated from an International Baccalaureate high school with an IB diploma.
  • Your first language is English and you completed your schooling in English in a country where English is an official language.

Other Application Materials

Depending on your academic program, you may be required to submit additional documentation to be considered for admission, such as a resume/cv, personal statement, professional license, letter of recommendation, etc. You can view these requirements and submit them within your Charger Status account.  

Required Documentation Regarding Citizenship Status

If you seeking a F1 student visa, the Office of International Services will be assisting you with instructions on how to request an I-20 in order to obtain an F-1 visa to travel to UAH to begin your studies. Upon acceptance, please make sure to set up your UAH email account as this is the email address that will be used to reach out to you regarding the next steps for requesting an I-20. You must required to submit an affidavit of financial support and original documents (such as an official bank letter) that prove that you or your sponsor have access to fluid funds sufficient to cover at least one year's tuition and living expenses. 

Health Insurance Requirements

Admitted international students will be provided with and billed for mandatory health insurance for each semester they are enrolled. Family coverage may be purchased at an additional cost. This insurance is available but not required for students not on F-1 or J-1 visas.
